Eric Von Berg, CMB, finances and sells commercial property as a Principal with Newmark Realty Capital, Inc.
Eric’s background in design, finance, construction and development gives him a unique understanding of the diverse aspects of value creation in real estate. He began his real estate career as a designer, training in landscape architecture and site planning at U.C. Berkeley. After a few years of practice in urban design, he chose to broaden his horizons with an MBA at the Wharton School of Business, where he specialized in Real Estate Finance.
After receiving his MBA, Eric joined the commercial property mortgage banking firm, E.S. Merriman and Sons, in San Francisco where he rose to became an owner in the firm and operate the Santa Clara Valley Regional Office.
Eric was hired away by Norris, Beggs and Simpson as Director of Finance managing commercial mortgage production for the San Francisco and East Bay offices. Among other duties, Eric was responsible for underwriting and financing the joint venture investments of Copley Real Estate Advisors in his region. These investments totaled approximately 4 million square feet of ground-up office, retail, apartment, for-sale housing, and industrial projects.
In 1990 Eric joined William C. White at G & W Management Company, now Basin Street Properties. Eric managed the land development, construction and leasing of office and industrial projects at G&W, before joining Newmark Realty Capital, Inc. in 1993 as a Principal.
Eric is active in several professional organizations. Eric is a former chairman of the California Mortgage Bankers Association served on the Commercial Board of Governors (COMBOG) for the Mortgage Bankers Association of America. Eric is a founding board member of the US Resiliency Council, www.USRC.org. He is a licensed California Real Estate Broker and Certified Mortgage Banker.
