William L. Monheit has been directly involved in a variety of roles in the commercial real estate arena for over 30 years, from attorney, acquisitions manager, lender correspondent, and institutional borrower, and has been directly involved in the closing of over $3 billion of commercial real estate transactions during this period. His educational background includes a B.S. degree in Business Administration (Finance and Real Estate) from the University of California at Berkeley, an MBA degree (Real Estate) and a Juris Doctorate degree (Law) from Golden State University in San Francisco. Current affiliations include: Licensed Member of State Bar of California; California State Bar Real Property division member; and member of California Mortgage Bankers Association.
After a short legal practice with the law firm of Jayne Kelly Roberts in San Francisco, which specializes in real estate and business litigation, Mr. Monheit spent approximately five years with the Sierra Capital Companies, a Real Estate Investment Trust, where he was involved in the location, acquisition and finance of commercial properties on a national basis for the trust.
For the following five years, Mr. Monheit was a Senior Finance Officer in the San Francisco office of Norris, Beggs & Simpson. As one of the key loan officers and producers in the company, Mr. Monheit was directly responsible for the investment underwriting of their insurance company lenders and in the placement of debt through direct lending sources. Mr. Monheit was also directly involved in the acquisition of commercial investment properties on behalf of his real estate investment clients and in the structuring of complex real estate transactions, including sale/leasebacks, participating ground leases, convertible and participating debt, and equity joint ventures. In 1990 he was the top finance producer in the company for Norris, Beggs & Simpson.
In late 1991, Mr. Monheit left Norris, Beggs & Simpson to become a principal and founding partner of Newmark Realty Capital, Inc. Since 1991 Mr. Monheit has closed in excess of 18,000,000 square feet of commercial real estate debt & equity transactions on a national basis. Mr. Monheit also acts as a consultant to institutional lenders, law firms and others in connection with commercial real estate finance and investment and provides acquisition services on behalf of private investors.
